These Terms govern your use of the Prins & Prins website and your purchase of goods and services from us. By using this site or placing an order, you agree to these Terms. Please read them together with our Privacy Policy and Policies, Guarantees & Warranty.

1. About Prins & Prins

Prins & Prins is an independent diamond and fine jewellery house established in 1982, trading from 66 Loop Street, Cape Town City Centre, South Africa. We manage the complete process in-house, from diamond and gemstone sourcing to bespoke jewellery creation. We are longstanding members of the Jewellery Council of South Africa, JMASA and Cape Town Tourism.

2. Products, Descriptions & Certification

We take care to describe our pieces accurately. Diamonds and gemstones are accompanied, where applicable, by independent laboratory grading certificates (for example GIA or EGL). We guarantee all characteristics as stated on an item’s accompanying documents at the time of sale. Should it be proved that the characteristics differ from what those documents state, or that manufacturing faults are present, Prins & Prins pledges to replace the item with one that meets or exceeds the original specifications, to the South African Rand value of the item’s cost at the time of purchase.

Photography is representative. Because many pieces are natural and handmade, slight variations in colour, inclusions and finish are inherent and form part of the character of natural stones and handcrafted jewellery.

3. Pricing & Availability

Prices are quoted in South African Rand and, where applicable, include Value Added Tax. Prices and availability may change without notice, as natural diamonds, gemstones and precious metals are subject to market movement. Where an item is unavailable it may be made to order, as set out in our Policies, Guarantees & Warranty.

4. Orders & Formation of Contract

Placing an order is an offer to purchase. A binding contract is formed once we confirm and process your order. Order processing, communication, cancellations and pre-orders are governed by our Policies, Guarantees & Warranty. All online payments are encrypted using SSL technology and processed through a secure third party gateway; card details are not stored on our servers after purchase.

5. Returns, Exchanges & Refunds

Returns, exchanges and refunds are governed in full by our Policies, Guarantees & Warranty, which forms part of these Terms.

6. Our Guarantees

We uphold and exceed the guarantees required under the South African Consumer Protection Act (CPA):

• Jewellery may be returned within 30 days if it fails to perform as promised. Jewellery is inherently decorative and cannot be returned for reasons of personal preference unless it is faulty.
• If the metal stamp does not match the actual metal content (for example, marked 18K but not 18K), the item is eligible for a full refund.
• Items may not be returned if they were altered by another jeweller, were custom orders (for example, patterned eternity bands), or are damaged through wear.

7. Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty

All Prins & Prins jewellery is covered by a 6-month Limited Manufacturer’s Warranty against defects in materials (for example, porosity in alloys), craftsmanship errors (for example, broken prongs or poor settings) and faulty resizing due to our error. All items are quality checked before delivery.

Complimentary lifetime care. For the lifetime of an item purchased from us (items from other jewellers excluded), you are entitled to ultrasonic cleaning, prong inspection, and professional polishing and maintenance advice. Rhodium plating is limited to one complimentary service within the first year of purchase. Ring re-sizing is limited to one complimentary re-sizing within the first 3 months after purchase; thereafter normal costs apply. If a ring is made to a finger size indicated by the client rather than by a Prins & Prins consultant, the complimentary re-sizing does not apply.

The warranty does not cover accidental damage or misuse, loss or theft of stones or items, wear and tear (scratches, discolouration, bent shanks), or alterations by third parties. The warranty becomes void if an item has been altered, resized or repaired by anyone other than Prins & Prins.

Warranty claims. Contact sales@prinsandprins.com or visit us at 66 Loop Street, Cape Town. Provide a copy of the original invoice and a clear description of the issue (images recommended). Claims are assessed within 14 business days after the item has been received for in-house assessment by management in Cape Town. If approved, repairs are free of charge; if irreparable, a replacement or credit is offered.

8. Jewellery Insurance

Our warranty does not cover loss or accidental damage. We strongly advise insuring your jewellery against theft or loss, accidental damage, natural disasters and travel-related incidents. Please consult your household insurer or a jewellery-specific insurance provider.

9. Intellectual Property

All content on this website, including text, photography, designs, logos and the Prins & Prins name, is owned by or licensed to Prins & Prins and is protected by South African and international intellectual property law. You may not reproduce, distribute or use any content for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and without limiting your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, Prins & Prins is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of this website. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, including the Consumer Protection Act and the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act. Any dispute is subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The version published on this page, with the date above, is the current version and applies to your use of the site and any order placed after that date.
