A Living Landmark
Huguenot House, one of the last Cape Dutch townhouses left in the old city, has stood on the corner of Loop and Hout Streets since about 1752. Behind its shutters are beautifully restored eighteenth-century murals, a wine cellar turned museum, and the goldsmiths and gemmologists who call it home. Restored in 1993, and classified as a Grade II Western Cape Heritage resource.

The Founder
Dr Petré Prins
PhD Geochemistry ◆ MBA ◆ GIA Graduate
As he rolled it between thumb and forefinger, it became alive, like a glowworm in the dark.
In 1975, Dr Petré Prins stood in the De Beers Laboratory at Stellenbosch University and, for the first time, held a rough diamond to the light. That moment determined the next fifty years. After fifteen years of gem research and lecturing, he founded Prins & Prins in Cape Town.
His doctorate in Geochemistry and his GIA graduate training mean that when Dr Prins grades a stone, he works from one of the deepest wells of knowledge in the South African trade.
